If you don't ever intend to version this file, you could set it as ignored,
which I think should stop this problem.

I am currently looking at a radically different design for the status cache
which might be better in this regard, and could in theory add new options
of this type (though I would probably resist this, as it makes everything
more complicated and potentially very confusing when things are apparently
not working.)
