This is going to be way, way, way confusing for users trying to follow this
pattern. I can see it now:

"Wait, I want to promote from my branch to the trunk so the "From" must be the
trunk and the "To" must be my branch? That makes absolutely no sense. You must
be wrong."

However, I don't see how any UI change would make this make sense unless it was
some sort of modal dialog that asked pre-qualification questions as to what you
were trying to do. And that in itself would be too confusing to users. ;-(
