We always could start defining a release procedure. There's nothing
stopping us from doing that.

Nope. Seems to work great!

Just not for the TCVS people ;)

So how about we create the release branch on say tuesday evening. Then
schedule the release for friday evening?
Or is that too short a time?

As long as it starts working when we do the freeze, I guess that would
be ok.

Another thing to consider: we now use the Scintilla edit control instead
of the standard windows edit control (which, let's be honest, sucks for
entering longer log messages). I'm not sure if that will work reliably
for non-ascii languages, especially languages which have special chars
like chinese.
Someone out there who uses such an OS care to try a nightly build and test?
