[TSVN] TortiseSVN 1.1.1 problems on Win98

This morning I upgraded from version 1.0.8 to 1.1.1 for my Win98 laptop and have
spent the past 3 hours doing battle with it before reverting to 1.0.8

After installing (in the previously used directory) and rebooting I lost the
shell extensions. Explorer crashed multiple times when I tried to shut down.
I tried the repair option on the uninstaller - same result.
I uninstalled and wiped the program directory, then reinstalled. This time I had
the shell extensions back, but when I tried to update I got an error dialogue
without any text.
Uninstalling and reverting to 1.0.8 has returned business as usual.

System Details: Toshiba Satellite 4080XCDT PII MMX running Windows 4.10.1998
with Toshiba mods. (yeah, its ancient!). Repositry is on a client's server
running Samba.

I note that Steve is away and any response may be delayed.
