The idea of SOAP or XML-RPC is tempting, but might turn into more work
than one would like. My team actually works on an enterprise SOAP
framework for our customers and one of our big headaches is
interoperability with other platforms. Various platforms implement
SOAP in slightly different ways.

Anyway, I would definitly start with a simple file download, especially
since doing SOAP or XML-RPC in C++ probably won't be fun :)
