Easier, yes. But only if the feature doesn't lead to something
unexpected or bad.

So what would you suggest to use as a foldername when you check out from
e.g.
http://svn.collab.net/repos/tortoisesvn/trunk

maybe "trunk", maybe "tortoisesvn". Ok, in this case, we should probably
use "tortoisesvn". But what about an url like this:
http://myserver.com/repos/trunk/tortoisesvn

Here, the layout is different.

Oh, I see, we could just check for "trunk" and if found, _not_ use that
but the parent folder of it. Works for english people and people who use
the recommended names (like "trunk"). But other languages name "trunk"
differently.

So your suggestion doesn't work at all. That's one of the reasons why
people complained before and I changed it to what it is now.
