OK, some version Information: Eclipse 3.2.1, Subclipse 1.2.4, the repo
was created using SVN 1.4.4 (r25188).

From your link, I guessed its not SSH2, but "ssh -v" looks ok:
http://rafb.net/p/UDvyJ964.html

though im not sure about these lines:

debug1: Remote protocol version 1.99, remote software version OpenSSH_3.7.1p2
debug1: match: OpenSSH_3.7.1p2 pat OpenSSH_3.*
debug1: Enabling compatibility mode for protocol 2.0

Is there a way to get more info _why_ the connection gets closed?

Sebastian.
