I was having this same problem and I quickly realized that I had not yet set
up conf/svnserve.conf and conf/passwd. Once I did this, Subclipse of course
asked for the password and kindly offered to save it. I'm guessing if
anonymous had write access, it'd have just gone ahead without asking.

NOTE: subclipse prepopulates the userid field with your login id, so it's
convenient if they're the same, but saving password also saves the userid
(um, I think).
