[Subclipse-users] Using a shared working copy for web development

Mark, following our brief discussion in IRC, I'm bringing this topic to
the newsgroup.

As a web developer I'm used to working on files directly on the
development webserver. This saves me having to constantly FTP files to
test each change.

My development machine is Windows with Eclipse, accessing a samba share
of the webroot on a linux+apache dev server. When I installed svn I
checked out my working copy to the web root so that I could still
instantly see my saved changes, and only commit when I was happy with
those changes, which is a workflow I am now very comfortable with.

I want my designers to be able to change the template and css files on
the development server, and also to be able to commit those changes in
their own name so that I have a history of changes and can revert if
need be.

Now I know this isn't the "ideal" svn setup, but I do not want to have
everyone working on different copies, as I like to be able to see what
the designers are working on in real time, and be able to make changes
for them on certain files without going through the rigmarole of
committing/updating.

So, to my questions:

Is anyone using a similar setup?

Have you managed to get it working?

Regards,

Phil Moorhouse
