We are certainly aware of the request, given that CVS provides the feature
it comes up fairly often.

There are plenty of complications in providing the feature. I would not say
it is impossible, but definitely difficult. It is not on my personal
roadmap, but someone is always free to try to tackle it. I would strongly
recommend someone that attempts to do this work through it on the dev@ list
as I believe a number of important classes will need to be touched and
possibly broken.
