The Synch stuff is not likely causing the crash. That error is usually when
you have a stuff has been deleted without us knowing about it. It could
potentially be fixed by clearing the synchronizations or in a worst case
starting over from checkout or even workspace + checkout. The crash seems
like the bigger issue and you did not really provide any details about the
crash.

Also, are you using JavaHL or SVNKit?
What Linux distro?
Sun JVM?
If using javaHL, what version?
