Thanks Mark. I went back to 1.1.9 (using Help -> Software Updates... -
> Manage Configuration -> Subclipse dropdown item -> Replace With
Another Version) and sure enough, it didn't work there either. I
should have tried that before posting to the list.

Anyhow, I tried removing everything subversion related in /usr/local
and did a "make distclean" in my src directory and re-configured/re-
built using the same commands as before. Everything works now. I'm
wondering if the build process was finding older versions of things
in /usr/local. Anyway, thanks for pointing the finger in the right
direction.

BTW, I have been building a binary package of 1.4.x for Intel OS X
that includes JavaHL for my own use in a lab. I mentioned it on the
list before but nobody bit. I'm guessing there isn't much interest
given that Alexander is keeping up quite well with SVNKit.
