[Subclipse-users] browsing repository hangs at "Fetching children of ..."

I am using Subclipse 1.1.8 with Eclipse 3.2.1. Both are current with
respect to any updates. I have an "svn+ssh://..." SVN repository set up
and can see it in the SVN Repository view.

If I use the disclosure arrow to reveal the next level down, I see the
"branches", "tags", and "trunk" directories as expected. However, if I
try to unfold one of those, I just get "Pending..." forever.

The Progress view shows a "Fetching children of trunk" task, assuming
that "trunk" was what I tried to expand. The progress bar is blank and
remains blank indefinitely. Below the progress bar is the text
"FetchMembersOperation.taskName".

I cannot cancel this task. Clicking the red cancel box appends
"(Cancelled)" to the task name but it remains in the list. Only
quitting and restarting Eclipse makes it go away.

A similar problem appears one level higher up in the tree if I try to
create a new project by checking it out from a new SVN repository. The
"Checkout from SVN" dialog hangs with only the repository name visible
and "Pending..." below it. The Progress view shows an unkillable task
"Fetching children of <repository-url>" as before, including the
"FetchMembersOperation.taskName" text.

What's breaking here? Any suggestions for how I can diagnose, fix,
and/or work around it?
