OK, I did some testing (on Windows).

Neither adapter had any problem prompting and saving this information.
However, I did discover that JavaHL did not store the cache in the
location I told it to in the Subclipse preferences. It always stored it
in my home folder. On Windows this defaults to:

C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Application
Data\Subversion\auth\svn.ssl.server

You can type:

%APPDATA%\Subversion

In the Windows Run dialog to open this folder. Maybe these users cannot
write to this location? Seems impossible to believe though.
