Please explain how handing an inexperienced user an option that wipes out
the changes that are in the repository makes anyones life easier?

Also, for someone to code this option this is what they would have to do:

1) Copy selected local files to temp location
2) svn revert selected files
3) svn update selected files
4) Copy files back from temp location
5) Open commit dialog

As for filing an enhancement in the issue tracker, that is fine by me.
