Eclipse could not be a factor in this particular problem.

Try using whichever client adapter you are not using. There can
definitely be differences in the adapter in this area.

I cannot recreate the problem on Windows. There could be factors that
influence the problem, such as whether there are any changes in the
externals either incoming or outgoing. For whatever reasons your WC could
just be missing some data (not sure if this is actually possible). You
might try doing Team -> Update on the root of the project just to give
Subversion a chance to update all of its info in the WC.

Basically anything you can do to help narrow it down so I can recreate the
problem. Fixing the NPE where it is happening would be easy, but I am
sure it will resurface somewhere else as it just does not seem like the
value should ever be null.
