On Windows XP, I have found it helpful to turn off fast indexing for the
drive on which I have my repository. I did this before using Subclipse,
but I found that it significantly improved overall performance on my
system. It seems that every time a file changes, fast indexing examines
the file to index it.

To turn it off, right click on the drive, choose properties and uncheck
the "fast indexing" box. When asked the scope, choose recursive.

When I suggested this to Johnathan Gifford in a thread on this list, he
tried it and said it did the trick. (See email dated 3/24/2006)

Perhaps this could be added to the FAQ?
