These sort of improvements would be nice to have, but ultimately it comes
down to someone has to be willing to put in the effort to make the changes
and submit the patch. I will do my best to review these patches, QA them
and get them committed.

I just plan on doing releases based on when we get enough changes
committed to warrant one, regardless of what else might be needed. It
seems like there is some pent up activity around commit sets, so I am
hoping that will be submitted soon and we can start a new release cycle.
Of course, things have to remain stable as well, but that is why I am
going to use and odd/even numbering scheme. The odd releases will only be
available to those that seek them out, the even releases will be published
to the main update sites.
