That all looks normal. I am not sure why you would be getting that error.
 The project should still be shared. Once the checkout happens your
project is shared. The commit is just done at the end of the process so
you can share/commit the actual files as part of the process. I usually
just hit Cancel so that I can just manually Add items and set svn
properties before committing.

I am assuming that is not the case for you? Is the Team menu active? Do
you see decorators? Assuming no, have you looked in your filesystem to
see if the project root folder has the ".svn" metadata folder?
