Subversion has a feature to make files read only on checkout if the
Subversion property svn:needs-lock has been set on the file. Could that
be the case?

That is all I can think of. If that is the case, you could either:

a) remove the property
b) use the Lock feature to make the file editable. In Eclipse, you
should be prompted to do this automatically simply by editing the file.
