Problem ignoring a file from the Synchronize view

In my Synchronize view, if I have a new folder with a new file under it,
I can not ignore either the file or folder. The file doesn't have the
option, and the folder (.ignoreFolder in this case) gives me the
following error:

Cannot set ignored pattern on '/TestProject/.ignoreFolder'.

Despite the error given in the Synchronize view, after restarting
eclipse the folder is ignored.

I am able to ignore the folder from "Package Explorer" view without
difficulty.
