copy directory in version control using the navigator view

When I copy a directory using the navigator view it copies the .svn
directory. Do you consider that a bug or a feature?

The same thing happens when I copy using the package explorer.

To me it is somewhat counter intuive, I think to remember that the
CVS team module behaved differently?

If it is a feature, how I do I detach it from thet SVN url? (without
going to the file system and deleting .svn)?
