Why is Subclipse not hosted on subversion, but instead CVS ?

What is up with this? I see that it is actually hosted on CVS. It would be nice if this could be changed. I would like to do some development on Subclipse (I am an experienced eclipse developer) but I dont really want to screw with CVS if I dont have to.
