On the buildbot I build against Ruby 1.9.x. The patch to fix the single build problem I had with that version and VS2015 is nominated in STATUS.

If I remember correctly ruby starts to prefer the mingw toolchain on Windows over anything else.

Fixing the build wit early 2.x versions wasn't easy.

       ..\ruby\include\ruby-2.2.0\ruby\defines.h(48): fatal error C1083:
       Cannot open include file: 'strings.h': No such file or directory
