One benefit I see to announcing as early as possible is that it lets binary
package maintainers do their thang a day earlier, ideally completing their
independent verifications and packaging/publishing steps about the same time
that the mirrors are all caught up. I don't know if that benefit outweighs
the mild "tease" of announcing a release that maybe some folks have a hard
time finding, or what. (Color me "generally indifferent", too.)
