I do recall seeing his suggestion, and I personally don't agree with it.
I don't really see the point in retaining older "news" items on the
front page. If folks want to see older news, they can click the link
that directs them to the older news. I don't understand the concern
about "variety" in the news items on the front page; they are there to
tell people what's happening the project, not provide interesting
reading.
But this is really just all a bikeshed. I'm just doin' what's been
done for several years now (the location has changed, but the concept
of project news has been around for a while). If folks wish to change
that pattern, we can, but a one-off suggestion does not a project
habit change make.
I would suggest that if somebody feels strongly about this, they
should rearrange the existing content in a manner which reflects their
feelings.
