Whether or not the order of patch submission and discussion is a problem
depends on the attitude of the person putting in the work.
Arwin already said that he didn't feel writing the diff was a waste of
his time either way.

Having the discussion prior to writing a patch can be useful.
But a diff often says more than a thousand words. For the same reason
we're asking people for recipe scripts when filing bug reports.

See the "sqlite and callbacks" thread for another recent example of this.
It got off the ground *after* Brane posted a patch, not before.
