I do not recall anyone on Windows or OSX looking for another option.
Adding support for this seems like it is just going to create
problems. More stuff to compile, more inconsistencies from one set of
binaries to another etc.

I certainly favor adding this and more options for *nix users where
there are no guaranteed options available.
