Notes from SVN/Infrastructure meeting

From: Greg Stein <gstein_at_gmail.com>

Last Thursday, some SVN developers met with Apache's Infrastructure
team to discuss migration concerns and possibilities. Joe Schaefer,
the ASF systems admin, took notes on that meeting. The questions
raised from that meeting are why I've been sending out these
Requests-For-Comment.

Attached below.

Notes from the 2009-11-05 meeting between svn devs and infra.

* Hosting the repository for the subversion project:

  3 possibilities: integration with main asf repo, hosting as a
separate repo within the same environment, or completely separate
repo.

  Issue with merging into main asf repo is revision numbers in logs:
justin notes that a fixup script might resolve this.

  Running release candidates are no problem for infra.

  General consensus seems to be to incorporate subversion into the
main asf repo. But the svn dev list will be consulted for a final
decision.

  Subversion has 3 repos, including a security repo. The asf private
repo should be sufficient for that.

* Hosting the bug database:

  Infra expressed no preference as to - bugzilla vs. jira - to migrate to.

  The subversion folks will make an xml dump for infra to play with,
and consult their dev list to determine which bug tracker to use.

* Mailing Lists

  Subscriber base will not be migrated across. List subscribers will be told
  to subscribe to the the apache.org lists.

  The subversion security list will be handled as a typical apache
security list.
  Mail archives will be given to infra as a sql dump for us to massage
into a typical mbox archive file.

* Wiki

  Not a concern, not necessary to migrate across.

* Buildbot

  Justin runs the master build box for subversion. He would like to
stop hosting it and see it moved to apache but the issue is not
pressing. Greg points out some hudson bindings he'd like to exercise
on apache hardware.

* Prior distributions

  TBD.
