From looking at your traces, I think the test which is segfaulting for
you is test_diff() in test_client.rb.
I've built without --enable-maintainer-mode but with CFLAGS="-O0 -g".
All tests in test_client.rb still pass without a segfault.

I'm using swig 1.3.36 and ruby 1.8.6.
