take-issue question

From: Edmund Wong <ed_at_kdtc.net>

Hi,

Pardon my ignorance and possible stupidity; but, suppose I take an
issue to try to fix it (I know, "Do, or do not. There is no try"),
how long am I given before it expires(if at all)? IN other words,
how long before
      1) I'm way overdue,
      2) I need to return it back to 'not-taken'

(whichever is the earliest)?

Thanks.

Edmund
