wc-ng on trunk: what you need to know

As promised, we made wc-ng the default working copy metadata format on
trunk today. If you'd like to use the old-style working copy format,
you'll need to use a 1.6.x client.

Existing (pre-wc-ng) trunk working copies are format 11. This format
is not supported moving forward, and you will need to either downgrade
to format 10 (supported by 1.6.x) or upgrade to format 12. Upgrading
to format 12 is NOT REVERSIBLE, and you will need to use a trunk
client on the upgraded working copy moving forward.

wc-ng is stable enough to perform standard Subversion operations. All
the tests pass, over all access layers and supported operating
systems. However, the code is still relatively untested, so (as
always) please be careful when using trunk on important data.

The wc-ng format is still in flux, meaning that working copies created
with a given revision of trunk may not be read or writable by future
versions of trunk. This is within our compatibility guidelines, and
part of the experience of running trunk. Any given revision of trunk
will be stable within itself, so this should not negatively impact
development of other areas of Subversion. We hope to get the format
stable soon, but reserve the right to change it up until release.

As always, we've still got progress to make in speed, performance,
robustness and other areas. The tests will take longer to run, you
may need to increase the number of allowable file handles in your
operating system, and you may find the occasional bug. Please be
patient as we continue to work on this important feature, and consider
pitching in to help things progress even faster!
