That's not what Neels did. He had --disable-shared in APR's configure
flags, and not in Subversion's configure flags.

Theory: Because we now always use libtool as used by APR, the libtool
scripts in Neel's Subversion working copy were all set up for static
linking behind Subversion's configure script's back.

But I can't be sure, because I keep finding out again and again that
I don't understand libtool.
