Everyone's worried about scripts. Um, even Windows has isatty.

I prototyped this in gvn, with the intention of proposing it for
svn later. Of course I don't work on this stuff anymore...

Nevertheless, gvn's implementation should be interesting,
especially the comments about the various broken ways your
progress callback will be called.
