Don't worry. In Tcl/Tk 8.4 a lot of API's were 'const'ified, and the
same discussion happened. See the Rejected alternatives part in:
    http://www.tcl.tk/cgi-bin/tct/tip/27

Not a single bug report was filed for Tcl 8.4 or later where this
caused a problem, and Tcl runs of a lot more platforms than
SVN does. This convinces me that such an architecture
simply does not exists (even though theoritically it
could be possible)
