I don't think we should change current default behaviour, unless
there is a very compelling reason to do so. Some setups out there
might, you know, depend on the current behaviour and totally break
with the new one.

So it is better to leave the default behaviour as is and provide
different functionality via additional options. Best of both worlds.

In another thread (can't find it right now...) someone suggested
that mailer.py was far more advanced than the Perl equivalent. It
was questioned whether we really want to maintain both in our tree.

I myself don't think it's a problem, as long as there's maintainers
for both.

I don't know. My knowledge of Perl is far too miniscule to
have an informed opinion on that.
