The ability to figure out what has changed won't go away, but it would
be nice to give uses a way to choose which way they want to swing on the
speed-vs-convenience tradeoff.

Moving smaller pieces of the WC elsewhere is a feature that will be
preserved, via an 'svn detach' command (I'm making up the name, but you
get the idea).
