Ha, you should try building on Windows!

Those steps you gave are pretty much what you have to do on any *nix
OS. A lot of Linux distros might already have some of those
dependencies installed, but not always. And if you want the latest
versions you tend to have to go get them anyway.

This would also be better for the users@ list.
