I am +1 so that we can keep progress moving. I'd like to see us call
it Beta1 though. I still do not think this represents Alpha-quality
code by any commonly used standard. Also the lack of changes we have
had to make since alpha1 show that the code is reaching a point of
stability.

All that being said, now that we have merge tracking code in place, it
is also fairly easy to see the revisions on trunk that are not in the
branch. There are quite a lot, and I suspect a lot of them ought to
have been nominated and have not been. So perhaps we ought to more
aggressively nominate some of these and give a little more time for
the next release?

If we do not plan to do this (nominate more stuff), then I am back to
a +1 for doing it soon as you proposed.
