This is a known problem and an issue already exists for it,
http://subversion.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=2010.

Most Subversion devs are quite consumed at the moment with work on the
coming 1.5 release, so are unlikely to tackle this any time soon. If you
want to take a try at it yourself and submit a patch please do!
