We've been discussing the idea on this list for the last 5 years or
so, and there seems to be a general consensus among svn developers
that yes, we want to 'centralize' the metadata into one place.
However, that's a huge change that nobody has attempted yet. It may
very well require a near-rewrite of the client's
working-copy-management code, which is perhaps the most complex code
in all of subversion. It's one of those things that will probably be
in a 'subversion 2.0' overhaul in the far future. In other words,
it's not "just a patch". :-)
