Well, we still have a specific list of features to finish (or rather,
bugs to fix). By my count, 14 known, see:

(I'm not counting #695 or #820, because they're wholly dependent on
other issues also in the list. And not counting #3000, because it's
just a web site cleanup task which can happen after branching.)

Merge-tracking issues are prominent among these, and #2897 is
prominent among them. I think Kamesh is close to solving it (I've
joined him on it recently, but I'm still getting up to speed).

You're right, of course, that new bugs will probably crop up. But
we're not starting from total chaos, either.

The rest of your mail ably summarized the issues, I have nothing to
add. I hate to say it, but I agree with Dan -- at least in that I'd
like to reevaluate branch-readiness around the middle of the month, if
not the end. How about Nov. 15th, a Thursday?

Sorry this is taking so long. Merge-tracking is hard :-(.
