Actually, it occurred to me that it might be easier to just produce a patch for
the changes I've been managing (exporting more API methods to Perl) for direct
review and commit to trunk, since that doesn't involve any massive
reorganization. Then I would do the rebranch/reapply Nik's stuff alone, so he
and I can work on the more revolutionary stuff later. But I can go either way...
