+1. Love the caret!

(And yes, I for one believe that we should support these formats on the
command-line to the degree it makes sense to do so.)

My initial thought was to disallow ..'s which would make a path crawl go
above the repository root. But after further consideration, I realize I
simply don't care about such a rule. Hopefully, we'd be normalizing the
final URL before every consulting the server. So, I guess the rule would be
that you can't use ../ to rise above the server root.
