Actually it never did kill off RCS for me. I still use RCS for the
little utility scripts that I wrote from time to time. The fact that
CVS/SVN requires a central repository makes moving the archives a lot
harder than I like.

Distributed VCS like Mercurial does help on this issue, since I can
simply copy/move the whole directory.

In any case, for what they were designed to do, SVN and CVS did a great job :-)
