That is a desirable idea, but it's not on any roadmap. One of the
problems is that even if the framework existed, do you know of any
merging tools for *any* binary formats? They're almost impossible to
find. Thus, the motivation to add the framework is low.

No, there's no way to do that in Subversion. I once heard that IBM's
'Stellation' version control system was capable of this, but I don't
think the project is very active:
