1.4.3 / 1.4.4 release stalled?

We seem to have lost momentum on 1.4.3.

Could someone with the appropriate expertise please render a definitive
verdict on whether we can release 1.4.3 as soon as it gets a final Win32
vote, or whether we need to abort the release?

I.e. - is the botched perl merge a regression, or merely an incomplete fix?

If there is no regression, I would like to get 1.4.3 out the door.

If there is a regression, I would like to roll 1.4.4 ASAP so we can get
moving on another round of testing.
