Actually, my suggestion to integrate the code was, unfortunately,
grounded in my forgetfulness. Somewhere I forgot that zombied locks
were an undesirable and unforeseen side-effect of our implementation
that happen to be a challenge to prevent, rather than just something we
agreed is bad but not worth fixing.

So, I'm cool with keeping the contrib script as a contrib script, and
focusing those energies instead on fixing the core problem.
