Yes, it's called "Clearcase". Google for it. :-)

In Clearcase, the repository and *all* working copies live on a
mounted network share. As you issue commands, the server magically
transforms your working copy for you. It's very fast. And because
everyone's working copies are all living on the server, the system
even allows users to share compiled object files with each other,
which speeds up build times quite a bit.
