I'm not sure; I am not a shell expert, and the systems I am using
install bash as /bin/sh, so it's not trivial for me to check to see if
they would work under standard Bourne shell. If somebody can verify
that one or both of the scripts works under vanilla Bourne shell, then
sure, it can be switched.
